The Sanjay Dutt biopic movie Sanju has excelled through its release and has been successful to create great hype about the Bollywood’s bad boy Sanju. The movie also pictures a female writer named Winnie Diaz who has been played by Anuksha Sharma in the movie.
Anuksha is portrayed as a famous writer, an Non Indian Resident who happens to visit India where Sanjay Dutt, played by Ranbir Kapoor and his wife Manyata Dutt, played by Dia Mirza try to convince Winnie Diaz to write an autobiography on him.
After failed attempt of writing an autobiography in order to improve his allegedly swayed away impression among the fans, who tagged him as terrorist, Sanju and his wife Manyata decide to find better writer who could relay positive message about his life through his biography.
The movie starts when Sanjay Dutt happens to reveal his extraordinary story to Winnie Diaz, who was first unconvinced to write book on him. He asks for an hour time where he tries to convince her by revealing his stories. Later, the stories of Sanjay Dutt starts to unfold in the movie as Winnie starts to find the truth, either by story from Sanjay Dutt or Kamlesh Kapasi, Sanjay’s best friend who was an IT entrepreneur in the United States, played by Vicky Kaushal.
Winnie Diaz plays an important role in the movie, who not only writes the autobiography of Sanju, but also helps to reunite the two friends, Sanju and Vicky, helping to find out the reason for their separetion was misunderstanding.
The end of the movie reveals the release of Sanju’s biography, titled ‘‘Kuch to log kahenge’’, based on one of the three songs suggested by Sunil Dutt in the movie. Sunil Dutt was played by Paresh Rawal in the movie. The movie shows that Sunil Dutt has great, influential role in Sanjay Dutt’s life.
The fact about Winnie Diaz
While Winnie Diaz is one of the most important character in the movie, which tries to reveal the truth on Sanjay Dutt’s life. It is very much misfortunate to know that Winnie is just an hypothetical character. There is no such person as Winnie Diaz and there is no known biography written after Sanjay Dutt.
The only biography written on Sanjay Dutt so far is, Sanjay Dutt: The Crazy Untold Story of Bollywood’s Bad Boy by Yasser Usman. However this was not authorized biography which Sanjay Dutt himself slammed about. Sanjay even revealed through his twitter that he would be taking legal actions against the book for releasing without his prior permissions.
During the trailer launch, RajKumar Hirani confirmed that there was no real Winnie Diaz and the character was just a part of fiction. This fact makes a big question mark on the credibility of the movie which has been accused of showing only the positive part of the Bollywood bad boy and trying to improve his image in front of fans.
Was Winnie Diaz’s role necessary
Along with different praise, blooming different records, there are certainly some controversies and allegations movies. The critics complain that the main propaganda of the movie is to improve the image of Sanjay Dutt and relive his market value.
What do you have to say about Winnie Diaz when you now know that the character was not real in real life.
While people had an impression that all the events and incidents were real life based on Sanjay Dutt, one of the main character in the movie was fictional. Winnie was used in the movie in a way that writer could unfold the story of the movie. However, I believe that the movie, with an impression of real life event, should not have used fictional character in one of its lead role.
